#GivingTuesday: Support people-powered, open social media
Free Our Feeds launched in January 2025 to support open social technology made for people, not companies. We're grateful for your support, and we've done our best to put it to good use:
- Thanks to grassroots donations, we were able to give $50,000 to Indiesky, a working group of the ATProto Community Fund, to build community and independent AT Protocol infrastructure.
- We launched Eurosky, an initiative to build a European base for the open social web.
- We hosted our first conference to build support for open social tech, bringing together policymakers, developers, researchers and media strategists in Berlin.
- We co-sponsored Protocols For Publishers, gathering a group of publishers and technologists to build strategies to support information creators at a critical time
- We’ve joined countless events across Europe and North America, written dozens of posts, and been in conversation with collaborators and partners around the world.
- We partnered with artist Ian Bruce, who spent a week painting a portrait of Elon Musk and interviewing movers and shakers about our current socio-technical dystopia.
- Two of our custodians co-authored a policy paper that looked at the shift towards decentralization and interoperability on the web and the opportunities this creates to make social media more diverse, innovative and healthier.
While Big Tech continues to control our online spaces, threatening free speech and democracy globally, we’re doubling down on our commitment to support decentralized open social technology.
But in order to do that, we need your help. On this #GivingTuesday, consider supporting our campaign. Let's work towards making a better internet for all, together.
